Una grande celebrazione per i 50 anni del genere Hip Hop, che oggi domina le classifiche mondiali, ha lasciato il segno nell’edizione 2023 dei Grammy Awards. La cerimonia della 65esima edizione dei premi della Recording Academy americana, che si è svolta alla Crypto.com Arena di Los Angeles (ex Staples Center) presentata da Trevor Noah, ha visto schierati per l’anniversario Big Boi, Busta Rhymes with Spliff Star, De La Soul, DJ Drama, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, GloRilla, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Mele Mel & Scorpio/Ethiopian King, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, The Lox, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rahiem, Rakim, RUN-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort. LL COOL J ha avuto l’onore di presentare la sezione dello spettacolo dedicando la sua performance al genere che ha reso grandi molti artisti americani.
L’edizione dei Grammy 2023 era stata preceduta da ansie, visto che il programma televisivo dell’anno scorso aveva racimolato solo 8 milioni di spettatori. Madonna, di nuovo nelle headlines questo mese per aver annunciato il suo Celebration Tour da luglio, è stata chiamata per introdurre Sam Smith e Kim Petras. Il duo si è esibito in una versione “satanica” del premiato singolo “Unholy”. La reazione di molti spettatori online è stata immediata, ma ha assicurato un trending topic sui social media.
Un po’ di dramma non guasta in una serata di questo genere. Harry Styles è scoppiato in lacrime all’annuncio della vincita nella categoria “Album dell’anno”.
Beyoncé, che è entrata nella storia per essere la cantante con maggior numero di vittorie ai Grammy (30, in una sola serata era nominata in 9 categorie), non si è presentata alla prima premiazione a lei attribuita nello show. La sua canzone “Cuff It”, che è diventata un ballo virale su TikTok durante l’estate, ha vinto la migliore canzone R&B. Ha vinto due premi alla cerimonia di preshow con “Renaissance” che ha vinto il miglior album dance, Dal palco è stato chiamato Nile Rodgers, produttore di “Cuff It”, a cui è stato dedicato un premio alla carriera. Ha dovuto ritirare lui il premio per la cantante, che poi si è manifestata tardi (“era bloccata nel traffico”, si è detto) e visibilmente commossa ha ringraziato la queer community e il suo celebre zio Jonny che l’ha iniziata alla dance music.
La personalità musicale che ha collezionato più Grammy in assoluto resta Georg Solti, un direttore d’orchestra che è a quota 31 premi.
